Hertfordshire Community Supermarket

Our community supermarket is here to support Hertfordshire residents who are affected by the rising cost of living by offering a wide range of food and essential goods at a more affordable cost.

Our goal is to empower individuals and families by providing them with the resources they need to maintain their independence; while ensuring they feel valued, respected, and supported in a welcoming environment.

Shopping at our social supermarket can help lower your grocery bills, giving you more flexibility to manage other essential expenses.

Membership

Shopping at our community supermarket can help lower people’s grocery bills, giving them more flexibility to manage other essential expenses.

The community supermarket operates from five locations across the county. All items cost between 50p and £1 and there is a limit of 20 items per visit (unless shoppers have a Healthy Start Card).  The Healthy Start Card is accepted and shoppers with this card can purchase more than 20 items.

The community supermarket will operate on a membership model. When individuals sign up, they will be given two months free membership. Thereafter, weekly charges will apply as follows:
£1.25 per week for individuals over 65
£2.50 per week for the under 65s

After the two free months, if individuals do not pay their weekly fee, they will be given four weeks to pay otherwise they will lose their membership.

In addition to low-cost food and supplies, staff and volunteers can provide signposting to other support services such as employment support, cooking workshops, everyday life skills courses, benefits and energy advice and much more!
